Modern Daily Knitting Field Guide No. 17 Lopi
Are your needles craving something quick and tremendously fun? The latest Modern Daily Knitting Field Guide takes us on a journey to Iceland, with intrepid guide Mary Jane Mucklestone. It brings us five woolly designs in Léttlopi, a single-ply, worsted weight Icelandic wool that's as light and warm as it is strong. These are patterns you'll want to wear for years to come, knit in wool that will stand the test of time.
Why do we love MDK Field Guide No. 17? Well, how long have you got? We're longtime fans of Mary Jane Mucklestone's particular brand of knitting genius. If you can't go on one of her famed knitting trips, this might just be the next best thing. And the patterns are fantastic: a cosy scarf, mittens and hats – all with interchangeable motifs – a modern yoked cardigan and a sweatshirt masquerading as a sweater (it even has POCKETS). There's not a dud among them!
All samples shown in Léttlopi by Lopi (50g balls, each 100m [109yds], 100% Icelandic wool).
A sweatshirt of a pullover that is lighter than it looks, thanks to being worked at a more open gauge. Most importantly, it has pockets. Written for nine sizes to fit chest measurements ranging from 76-162.5cm [30-64in].
A circularly knitted scarf that can be used as a giant gauge swatch for your Destination Pullover, this scarf is knit using one ball each of five or more colours of Léttlopi with stranded motifs used to transition from one colour to the next.
With six stranded motifs to choose from and the option to use as many colours as you like, make your hat as zany or subtle as you like!
The practical, tightly knit stocking stitch body of these mittens gives way to simple adornment on the cuff. These mittens, inspired by Swedish ones Mary Jane encountered as a teen, will meld and shape to the wearer's hand and make cold hands a thing of the past.
Get your steek on! Mary Jane's wildly popular Stopover Pullover has charmed knitters for years and now, we have a cardigan version! Written for eight sizes to fit chest measurements ranging from 81.5-157.5cm [32-62in].
Modern Daily Knitting Field Guides are little books that explore the big world of knitting, with patterns and stories to inspire the curious knitter.
